Formatting a Hard Drive on a Mac
- Plug in the hard drive per its instructions.
- Go to "Finder"
- Select "Applications"
- Select "Utilities"
- Open the "Disc Utility" Application
- Select the correct hard drive.
- Select the Erase Tab.
- The format should be: MS-DOS (FAT).
- Change the name to "MYBOOK".
- Double-check to make sure you have the right disc (failure to do this could result in loss of important files).
- Select "Erase" option.
- Confirm option to erase
- When Pop-up box appears, select the option "Don't Use"
- Repeat Steps 8-13 once more.
- The hard drive should now be formatted for use on any computer.
