Formatting a Hard Drive on a Mac

  1. Plug in the hard drive per its instructions.
  2. Go to "Finder"
  3. Select "Applications"
  4. Select "Utilities"
  5. Open the "Disc Utility" Application
  6. Select the correct hard drive.
  7. Select the Erase Tab.
  8. The format should be: MS-DOS (FAT).
  9. Change the name to "MYBOOK".
  10. Double-check to make sure you have the right disc (failure to do this could result in loss of important files).
  11. Select "Erase" option.
  12. Confirm option to erase
  13. When Pop-up box appears, select the option "Don't Use"
  14. Repeat Steps 8-13 once more.
  15. The hard drive should now be formatted for use on any computer.
